Recently, I was lucky enough to spend a long weekend with one of my best friends in the beautiful city of San Francisco. The City by the Bay is one of the most visited cities in the US, so when my friend suggested I meet up with her for a girls weekend getaway, I couldn’t resist. I hadn’t been in over a decade, so it was definitely time to go back!
Aside from the amazing food and beautiful weather that weekend, one of the highlights of the trip was our stay at the Loews Regency San Francisco.
I’ll share my impressions of the Loews Regency San Francisco. And why you should consider it for your next trip to San Francisco!
Loews Regency San Francisco
We had a wonderful stay at the hotel. I’d highly recommend it if you’re planning a trip to the city, whether for work or pleasure.
1. Location
The Loews Regency San Francisco is located in the Financial District, making it a great spot for anyone visiting the city for work. As a tourist this go-round, I also felt it was in a convenient location for almost anything you’d want to see or do in the city.
San Francisco proper is no bigger than 7 miles by 7 miles, so in reality, you’ll be close to most anything no matter which area you’re staying in. But I loved that we were within walking distance to touristy stuff like Fisherman’s Wharf, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, and shopping, bars, and restaurants.
We walked almost everywhere from here, and the handful of times we called an Uber or Lift, we never spent more than ~15 minutes in the car.
2. Room
The Loews Regency occupies the top 11 floors of a 48-floor high-rise building. I’m going to go out on a limb and say it’s unlikely you’ll find a hotel with better views. Our “Bay to Bay” room lived up to its name, with sweeping views from the Golden Gate Bridge to the San Francisco – Oakland Bay Bridge, including Alcatraz!
In addition to the outstanding views, the room was spacious, comfortable, and clean. With plenty of room to work and relax. It was a real treat to be able to enjoy those views without even getting out of bed. 😉
The bathroom was roomy, too, and had double sinks, a deep soaking tub, and a large marble shower. There was plenty of space for the two of us ladies to primp every morning and evening.
It was also nice that the bathroom was tucked near the front door of the room, allowing for more privacy if needed.
3. Food & Beverage
We didn’t end up eating at the hotel’s restaurant, The Bear & Monarch. But we tried a few things off the in-room dining menu, and everything was delicious!
In fact, we ordered room service almost every morning. I wanted to take full advantage of the benefits I received by booking our stay through AMEX’s Fine Hotels & Resorts program. Like a $40 daily breakfast credit per person!
4. Booking
I specifically chose the Loews Regency San Francisco because I wanted to use the AMEX Fine Hotels & Resorts benefit that comes with The Business Platinum® Card from American Express. And I wanted to treat myself during this girls weekend getaway.
When you book a room through AMEX Fine Hotels & Resorts, you get the following perks:
- Room upgrade upon arrival (when available)
- Daily breakfast for 2 people
- Guaranteed 4:00 pm late check-out
- Noon check-in (when available)
- Complimentary Wi-Fi
- Unique property amenity, like a food & beverage or spa credit
On the AMEX Fine Hotels & Resorts website, there were 8 hotels to choose from in San Francisco. I chose the Loews Regency primarily for the views. I compared prices between the Fine Hotels & Resorts’ and Loews’ website, and rates were identical.
It was incredibly simple to book through AMEX Fine Hotels & Resorts, you just have to sign-in with your AMEX login info. And be sure to have your qualifying card with you when you check in, or you won’t be granted any of the perks.
It’s a Great Time to Apply for the AMEX Business Platinum Card

Review: Our Review of the AMEX Business Platinum
Both The Platinum Card® from American Express and the AMEX Business Platinum cards come with the AMEX Fine Hotels & Resorts perk. But the AMEX Business Platinum card is currently offering a welcome bonus of up to 75,000 AMEX Membership Rewards points; 50,000 bonus points after you spend $10,000 in the first three months. Plus, an extra 25,000 bonus points after you spend an additional $10,000 in the same time frame.
The card’s $450 annual fee is NOT waived the first year. But as you can see, it’s incredibly easy to offset that fee if you take advantage of the card’s numerous perks. On this particular trip alone the AMEX Business Platinum card saved me over $650!
Bottom Line
I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the Loews Regency San Francisco. The location was conveniently within walking distance to popular spots like Fisherman’s Wharf and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. Plus, the views were unbeatable.
It was surreal to wake up every morning and be able to see the San Francisco Bay stretch from one end of the room to the other!
Even better, I was able to treat myself and one of my best girlfriends to an extra special stay using the AMEX Fine Hotels & Resorts benefit that comes with my AMEX Business Platinum card. And I saved money in the process!
